Conflict Management

As a supervisor or manager you are responsible for establishing the kind of climate that encourages open and honest communication on issues important to the individuals on your team.  As a supervisor you have the challenge of managing conflict within the team, in addition to managing conflict that may arise between you and another individual in the organization.  Our 3 C’s approach to Achieving Agreement is based on self mediation and can be used to manage both team and individual conflict. We will give you a simple three step approach –and  when used consistently – will do two things: 1. Minimize conflict on your team and 2. Give your team an agreed upon process for managing conflict (creating a point of agreement right off the bat!).

Key Learnings

  • Understand your conflict style and be introduced to other styles and approaches to conflict management.
  • The benefits of each style, and when to use one style over another.
  • Mediation: How to resolve conflict between you and another individual, two people and within an entire team.
  • The skills required to effectively manage conflict using the 3C’s approach to conflict management:
    • Climatize – Learn how to create a warm climate through: Seeking first to understand * Perception checking * Attitude * Awareness * Detachment
    • Clarify – Learn how to clarify the situation by: Using assertive communication * Effective use of questions in a conflict situation * Curiosity
    • Collaborate – Learn how to collaborate to identify the best option/resolution for both parties by using: Possiblity thinking * Nominal Group Technique for creating options and option analysis * Understanding the criteria for selecting the best option * Sealing the agreement
